Hear first hand from some of the incredible young teens who have participated in our programmes.
Projects: “This is the only time I want to get up. I don’t want to miss it... I would miss everything if this stopped. 5 days at school is too much.”
“It has been good coming here and building up confidence & everything in general...”
“We get positive & negative encouragement. So we know what we are doing right and wrong & what to do to improve it.”
“When I come here I am learning skills that I can use in real life.” “I’ve matured, you’ve pointed me in the right direction. Helped being in a group, socialising with people that had similar sort of problems. I don’t think I would have went to college at all, I wouldn’t have a job now, wouldn’t have any of it if it wasn’t for you guys. You’ve made me think I’ll be able to do it for myself one day.”
“I feel listened to when I’m here.”
“If it wasn’t for the Wednesdays with you guys I would probably be in secure now.” [secure being a secure unit for young offenders]
“I can try hard and when I do the result is good.”
“We have been giving the chance to show who we are and how we do it / what we can do and who we can be”
“I found out what Lead a Bright Future was from my high school Knox academy which I wasn't attending and I needed help to see my next steps for me leaving school and going into the work place and building myself up. I got the opportunity to go to Lead a Bright Future to build up a confidence for myself, take part in a group and also to find work experience I enjoyed and apply for college, and finding out what I was talented at. Lead a Bright Future built my confidence up and gave me courage to go and achieve what I love to do, which is cooking. I was very lonely before I came to lead a bright future, I struggled to speak to other people about how I was and where I wanted to go in life. They brought the best out in me, now I'm currently going to college and have worked and had work experience, at Jo's kitchen. I am now feeling very successful and I have a wide option to what I want to do and I can also speak in a group and communicate with others and make friends”
Enterprise Challenges: “My confidence has increased as it has made me more aware of my own abilities. I can persevere now and get things done! I feel I can network really well now and not be embarrassed or shy and be confident in my ideas in business. Communicating with you guys if I was unsure about anything has really helped me. Talking to local businesses and seeing if they can help and networking with the local business community has really helped. I can manage my finances now. I can set goals now and the time scales means I have to get things done. It has given me a real world insight into business. Money management I couldn’t get it right but I do now. It has helped in life skills. Thinking through the business cash-flow and a plan to follow out. It has been enjoyably hard.”
“I guess I am more confident in going ahead with things. I am really creative so I have a voice in my head that says I can’t do it and I have learnt not to listen to it now and just to realise I can do it. I am better at communicating now because I am partnering with another and that has helped me. I am regularly updating my family and friends about the process too. I have been preparing the cash-flow for the business and I feel I am now more confident about handling money generally. I guess I am more motivated as I don’t listen to that negative voice anymore and I am more about going for it and not procrastinating".
"Week by week goal setting has helped me to get better with focusing and this has been transferred to my school work. I am now not rushing everything and taking everything step by step. I know now that I want to be a leader. I feel more confident and I am going to do a managerial course at Uni now. I am much more interested in business at school now and able to practise what I have learnt here. It has been really motivating to actually do something with my spare time as I have never really had hobbies as such so this has been great to focus on.”
Employability course: “Course was very helpful in finding out that I can do this. Helping with finding work and giving myself confidence. Also helped me with my anxiety and depression, overcoming obstacles that stood in my way. Very, very helpful 10/10.”
“The course was great, well presented and made myself understand different circumstances. I believe without Fiona’s help and knowledge of what workplaces and interview place expected I would have struggled massively. So with that being said thank you and I’m sure with what I’ve learned I can get a job and keep it secure. Thank you!”
“Fiona was excellent. Very clear about her direction and help. Helped me tremendously with self-esteem and being self-assured.”
